Job Description

Leads UNICEF country-office security risk management in Nigeria, advising senior management on responsibilities under the UN and UNICEF security frameworks. The manager directs security activities, coordinates with the UN Security Management System and partners, and develops risk assessments, plans and measures that protect personnel and enable safe programme delivery.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Advise the Representative and Country Office management on security duties under UN and UNICEF frameworks
  • Implement a security risk management process that supports UNICEF's mandate and country strategy
  • Manage country security activities on behalf of the Representative
  • Coordinate security operations with UNSMS, UNDSS, UN agencies and INGO partners
  • Contribute to Security Risk Management assessments, procedures, guidelines and Security Plans
  • Monitor security compliance and strengthen security knowledge and capacity

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree
  • At least eight years of professional experience in security risk management and/or security analysis
  • International security management experience in emergency and/or conflict contexts
  • Understanding of the United Nations Security Management System
  • Fluency in English

Desired Criteria

  • Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language
  • Experience with interagency security coordination
  • Experience partnering with international NGOs
  • Experience in humanitarian access strategies
  • Familiarity with the Saving Lives Together policy
  • Experience managing security communications systems
