Job Description

Provides front-line outreach and application support for UNICEF's assisted voluntary return and reintegration activities in Sicily. The assistant informs and counsels migrants, facilitates referrals and authorizations with public authorities, supports transport arrangements and maintains accurate case, profiling and reporting information for AVRR beneficiaries and programme implementation.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Establish outreach links with Sicily-based municipalities, local entities, NGOs and diaspora groups involved in migration management
  • Provide information sessions and individual AVRR counselling for third-country nationals interested in returning to their countries of origin
  • File AVRR applications through the Ministry of Interior system and preserve documentation for each potential returnee
  • Coordinate dissemination of AVRR materials with the Project Coordinator
  • Assist migrants with applications, transfer complete files to the IOM AVRR Team and seek consular travel documents when needed
  • Maintain contact with Questure, Immigration Offices and Prefectures to facilitate AVRR eligibility assessment and authorization
  • Arrange transport support for medical and non-medical cases with medical facilities and personnel
  • Collect information for beneficiary statistics, migrant profiles, success stories and project activity testimonies

Role Requirements

  • University degree in International Relations, Law, Social, Political or Economic Sciences, Social Work, Migration or Development Studies, Psychology or a related field with two years of relevant professional experience; or High School diploma with four years
  • At least two years of working experience in the migration sector
  • Fluency in Italian and English, oral and written
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook

Desired Criteria

  • Previous working experience in AVRR counselling
