Job Description

Manages IOM's Pacific disaster-risk-reduction and early-warning programme from Suva, leading evacuation-centre, preparedness and climate-mobility initiatives across Fiji, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. The officer provides technical oversight, drives partnerships and capacity strengthening, and ensures programme results, compliance, monitoring and resource mobilisation support safer communities.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Manage implementation of the evacuation-centre and early-warning programme and other disaster-risk-reduction initiatives from Fiji
  • Provide technical leadership for preparedness, evacuation-centre management, early warning and disaster-displacement programming
  • Lead capacity strengthening, community preparedness, simulations, assessments, training and stakeholder engagement
  • Build partnerships with governments, UN agencies, humanitarian organizations, donors and community interlocutors
  • Develop new projects and programmes using results frameworks and emerging priorities
  • Oversee programme reporting, budget compliance, monitoring frameworks, data mechanisms and staff capacity building

Role Requirements

  • Master’s degree in International Relations, Political Science, Humanitarian Affairs, Economic Development, Business or Public Administration, International Studies or a related field with five years of relevant professional experience, or a university degree with seven years
  • Fluency in English

Desired Criteria

  • Japanese language proficiency
  • Working knowledge of another official UN language
  • Proficiency in Fijian, Fiji Hindi or another Pacific language
