Job Description

NATO’s Science and Technology Organization seeks an Analysis Officer in Brussels to produce evidence-based advice for its Chief Scientist. The role analyses science and technology trends, prepares policy-impact reports, helps organize research workshops, supports commissioned advice products, and collaborates with scientific, military and NATO stakeholders on defence and security priorities.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Identify and analyse science and technology trends using STO, NATO stakeholder and open-source reports
  • Deliver tailored reports on policy impacts of technology trends for defence and deterrence decisions
  • Organize workshops and events to share research results and gather evidence for advice products
  • Draft papers, reports and speaking notes for national and NATO officials
  • Support management of commissioned advice products for the Chief Scientist
  • Collaborate with analysis officers and provide backup for analysis workstreams

Role Requirements

  • At least three years of professional experience in science or technology at research or policy-development level
  • Broad operational knowledge of military technology and defence capabilities
  • Demonstrated capacity for planning, analysis and drafting proposals and ideas
  • University degree or equivalent defence or military qualification in a scientific, technical, engineering or mathematical discipline
  • Very good knowledge of English or French and good knowledge of the other official NATO language

Desired Criteria

  • Operational research or analysis experience is desirable
  • International and multinational work experience is desirable
  • Knowledge of NATO policies, procedures and working methods is desirable
  • Scientific-computing systems or similar analytical-tool experience is desirable
