Responsibilities

  • Prepare the modelling workplan and compile terrain and historical flood data
  • Develop a hydrological scenario tool using downscaled climate inputs
  • Build hydrodynamic models for priority moraine-dammed lakes
  • Simulate breach scenarios and produce flood extent, depth, velocity and arrival-time datasets
  • Refine inundation scenarios with aerial surveys and geomorphological evidence
  • Train emergency-management staff in modelling and hazard-map interpretation
  • Update models with bathymetric measurements and field observations
  • Integrate revised thresholds into early-warning procedures and hand over model files

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or doctorate in hydrology, hydraulic engineering, water resources engineering, civil engineering or a closely related discipline
  • At least five years of professional experience in hydrodynamic or two-dimensional flood modelling
  • Demonstrated proficiency in HEC-RAS 2D or an equivalent modelling tool
  • Experience modelling debris flows, dam breaks or glacial lake outburst floods in mountain catchments
  • Experience integrating climate or hydrological scenarios into hydrodynamic frameworks
  • Working knowledge of GIS platforms and digital terrain analysis
  • Training and capacity-building experience with national institutions
  • Professional fluency in Russian and Kyrgyz and good working knowledge of English
