GIS and Remote Sensing Specialist

Builds and operates geospatial data architecture, automation and analytical tools for CAFI’s payments for environmental services programme. The specialist integrates partner data, strengthens GIS workflows and supports transparent monitoring of forest and land-use interventions.

Department: CAFI Secretariat

• Design and strengthen geospatial architecture, databases and end-to-end data workflows for CAFI monitoring
• Develop and maintain GIS services, applications and automated data-processing pipelines
• Compile, validate, harmonize and quality-check spatial data submitted by implementing partners
• Build dashboards, maps, query tools and analytical products for programme monitoring and decision support
• Ensure interoperability with PostgreSQL, PostGIS, OGC services and Python geospatial libraries
• Guide partners on spatial-data standards, field workflows and links with national land registries
• Document scripts, datasets and systems and prepare monthly progress and data-quality reports

• Advanced university degree in GIS, remote sensing, environmental science, data science or a related field, or a bachelor’s degree plus two additional years of qualifying experience
• At least five years of relevant experience with a master’s degree, or seven years with a bachelor’s degree, in GIS, remote sensing, monitoring and evaluation, environmental protection or related fields
• Experience as a GIS or remote-sensing expert in forests and land use
• Experience with payments for environmental services and Congo Basin countries
• Proficiency with ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth Engine, Python and Microsoft Office
• Fluency in English and French

• Travel to the duty station and return home may be covered when the role is undertaken physically
