Leads UNIDIR’s Security and Technology Programme. The Geneva-based Head of Programme will set political-affairs strategy, manage research and staff, advise Member States and United Nations partners, represent the Institute, mobilise resources and direct programme delivery to support practical responses to critical international security challenges. globally.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Formulate political-affairs strategies and policy directives for security and technology
  • Plan and manage programme projects, activities and operational delivery
  • Prepare briefing notes and talking points for the Institute Director
  • Advise Member States, United Nations bodies and research communities through workshops
  • Lead research on disarmament, strategic security, cybersecurity and new technologies
  • Manage staff, recruitment, budgets, funding and programme reporting
  • Represent UNIDIR at round tables, seminars and conferences

Role Requirements

  • Master’s degree in political science, international relations, international economics, law, public administration or a related field, or first-level degree with qualifying experience
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security or related areas
  • At least 5 years of international policy experience on security and technology
  • Record of publishing on disarmament, arms control and international security
  • Fluency in English
  • Complete BSAFE and mandatory UN trainings

Desired Criteria

  • Experience in data analytics or a related area
  • Knowledge of another UN official language
