Job Description

Provides electrical-engineering support for UNOPS potable-water and irrigation recovery works under Syria’s Nexus Response Mechanism. The retainer role reviews designs and tender documents for power, pumping and solar systems; conducts site inspections; monitors contractor compliance, testing and commissioning; and maintains technical records to support standards-compliant infrastructure delivery.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Assess electrical needs for water-supply and irrigation infrastructure including power, pumps, controls and solar PV
  • Prepare and review electrical designs, specifications, scopes of work, bills of quantities, calculations and drawings
  • Prepare tender documents and support evaluation of consultancy, supply and construction proposals
  • Conduct site inspections and prepare detailed reports on progress, issues and lessons learned
  • Support oversight of contract deliverables, testing, commissioning and handover
  • Monitor contractor compliance with quality, HSSE and international standards
  • Review design documentation and recommend practical improvements
  • Maintain technical archives, site records, schedules and periodic progress-report inputs

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline with two years of relevant experience
  • At least two years of experience designing or supervising electrical systems works
  • Experience designing solar photovoltaic systems and related electrical components
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Fluent Arabic and intermediate English

Desired Criteria

  • Project-management certification and membership in a recognized engineering association are desirable
  • MS Office and Primavera or MS Project experience is desirable
  • International-organization or UN-agency experience is desirable
  • Electrical infrastructure experience in water supply, pumping stations or boreholes is desirable
  • Experience in Syria and targeted areas is an advantage
