Job Description
The UN Resident Coordinator Office in Samoa seeks a Data Specialist to develop data systems and analytics that improve statistical efficiency and quality. Based in Apia and reporting to the Head of the Resident Coordinator Office, the officer will deliver analyses, dashboards and visualisations, improve data quality and flows, produce data products, and build staff capacity in data analytics.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Develop databases, data-collection systems, data analytics and strategies that optimise statistical efficiency and quality
- Identify, analyse and interpret trends and patterns in structured and unstructured data sources
- Develop analysis, reporting and quality-control capabilities and identify suitable data sources for analytics projects
- Develop reports, dashboards and other tools to communicate findings to management
- Create interactive and static data visualisations to support decision-making and communication
- Collaborate with data engineers and scientists to improve data flows and data quality
- Conduct staff capacity-building activities in data analytics
Role Requirements
- Advanced university degree in computer science, data science, analytics, statistics, applied mathematics, information management, data management, information systems, information science, economic or social sciences, or a related field
- A first-level university degree may be accepted with two additional years of qualifying experience
- At least five years of progressively responsible experience in data manipulation and data analysis, including data structures and statistical methods
- Demonstrated skills in data storytelling and data visualisation tools including Tableau, Power BI, Qlik and R
- This position is open to nationals of Samoa only

- Ability to assess data accuracy and consistency through data validation is desirable
- Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions is desirable

Additional Information
- Fixed-term appointment for one year, subject to availability of the post or funds, budget approval or mandate extension.
- The role is open to nationals of Samoa only; Samoa nationals residing elsewhere may be considered if no suitable local candidate is identified.
- A written test and competency-based interview may form part of the assessment.
