Job Description

The UN Resident Coordinator Office in Lilongwe seeks an Associate Data Specialist to strengthen data engineering, collection systems and analytics for sustainable-development coordination. The role implements databases and data-quality processes, develops dashboards and visualizations, supports reporting and model assessment, gathers business requirements, and builds staff capacity in data analytics.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Implement databases, data-collection systems and analytics strategies that improve statistical efficiency and quality
  • Analyse trends and patterns using statistical methods and structured data sources
  • Acquire and clean data and maintain databases and data systems
  • Develop reports, dashboards and visualization outputs for management decision-making
  • Track data initiatives and report on progress
  • Gather business requirements across departments and identify data pain points
  • Support data verification, model assessments and routine reporting
  • Build staff capacity through data-analytics trainings and workshops

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in computer science, data science, analytics, statistics, applied mathematics, information management, data management, information systems, information science or a related quantitative field, or first-level degree with qualifying experience
  • At least two years of progressively responsible experience translating business requirements into technical solutions
  • Ability to perform quality assurance of data-analysis outputs
  • English at UN Level II for reading, writing, listening and speaking
  • Malawi nationality

Desired Criteria

  • Experience assessing data accuracy and consistency through data validation
  • Skills in data storytelling and data-visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Qlik and R
  • One or more years of data-analytics or related experience
