Job Description
The Air Operations Officer will manage the Strategic Multimodal Movement Operations Centre’s aviation activities in Brindisi. The role assigns air assets, controls tasking and emergency responses, oversees safety, risk and regulatory compliance, coordinates aircraft support and clearances, and develops operational plans, budgets and performance analysis for United Nations air transport operations.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Manage Air Operations Centre activities and compliance with aviation standards and operating procedures
- Review air mission requests and assign appropriate air assets for safety and cost effectiveness
- Approve Air Tasking Orders and resolve conflicting operational priorities
- Coordinate medical evacuations, search and rescue, flight clearances and aircrew support
- Conduct aviation risk management and analyse air-asset utilisation data
- Develop aviation procedures, budget inputs, operational plans and performance reports
Role Requirements
- Advanced university degree in air transportation, aviation management, air traffic management, aviation safety management, aerospace or aeronautical engineering, logistics or supply chain management, or equivalent military education
- A first-level degree with relevant air-transport training, certification and two additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree
- Commercial Pilot, Flight Operations Officer, Flight Dispatcher, Air Traffic Controller or equivalent military qualification
- At least 5 years of progressively responsible aviation, air-transport operations or aviation-safety experience
- At least 3 years of managerial experience coordinating complex international air-transport operations
- Experience coordinating air medical evacuations in complex environments
- Experience in aviation contract administration and quality management
- English
Desired Criteria
- Professional supply-chain certification such as CSCP, SCOR-P, MCIPS or Lean Six Sigma
- Project or programme management certification such as PMP, PGMP or PRINCE2
- Experience in aviation budget management
- Experience using ICAO standards and recommended practices
- Experience in post-conflict international operations
- Experience with data analytics and visualisation tools
