Use WIPO’s careers page to distinguish staff vacancies from affiliated-personnel opportunities. Check the stated category, grade, location, education, years of experience, language requirements and eligibility before applying. This is particularly important because General Service, Professional, National Professional Officer, internship, fellowship and contractor opportunities have different conditions.
2Create one complete profile in WIPO’s online recruitment system
Register through the official WIPO recruitment system and complete every relevant profile section. WIPO says candidates create this profile once and may edit it for later applications. Do not rely on an uploaded CV: only the information entered in the online system is used to assess the profile, and a CV is disregarded.
3Tailor the questionnaire and motivation letter to the exact post
Open the selected job and answer its job questionnaire as well as the self-screening questions accurately. Add a focused letter of motivation and use the detailed online profile to show the qualifications, results and experience that meet the essential requirements. WIPO recommends tailoring every application rather than recycling a general statement.
4Save progress, check the final record and submit before closure
The system permits work across separate sessions if each section is saved. Before submitting, check dates, qualifications, language claims, questionnaire responses and the motivation letter. WIPO says late applications are not considered and that details cannot be updated after submission, even before the deadline. A completed submission generates an email confirmation.
5Prepare for WIPO’s anonymous technical assessment if shortlisted
Applications meeting minimum requirements are reviewed by a selection board. Shortlisted candidates may receive an anonymous test tailored to the job; WIPO says candidates typically have one week to complete a 60-to-120-minute exercise on a dedicated platform. For some jobs, the board may instead include a technical question during the interview.
6Complete the panel interview and final verification stages
Candidates who pass the test, or those shortlisted where no test is required, may be invited to a 45-to-60-minute video or in-person panel interview of up to four board members. WIPO uses competency-based questions. Recommended candidates may undergo reference and/or background checks before an official Letter of Appointment; WIPO estimates about 15 weeks from closure to final decision on average.

Where do I apply for WIPO jobs?+
Apply through WIPO’s official online recruitment system, reached from the Working at WIPO careers page. Create a profile, select the exact vacancy and complete its questionnaire and motivation requirements before the closing date. WIPO registers a submitted application in the system and sends an automatic confirmation email, which is the useful record to retain.
Does WIPO assess my uploaded CV?+
Not as a substitute for the online profile. WIPO states that only information entered directly in its recruitment system is used to assess a candidate’s profile and that a CV will be disregarded. Use every relevant profile field to document qualifications and achievements, then add the job-specific questionnaire responses and motivation letter required for the vacancy.
What happens after a WIPO application is submitted?+
Human resources screens applications against the announcement and self-screening responses, then forwards eligible cases to a board for evaluation and shortlisting. Candidates may take an anonymous role-specific test, followed by a competency-based panel interview. WIPO says selected candidates may undergo reference and/or background checks, with an average process of about 15 weeks after closure.
What kinds of contracts and jobs does WIPO offer?+
WIPO advertises General Service, internationally recruited Professional and Director, and National Professional Officer staff posts. It also offers internships, fellowships, the Young Experts Program and Individual Contractor Services. These are not interchangeable: for example, General Service roles are recruited locally around Geneva, while an ICS agreement is independent contracting rather than staff employment.
Do I need to be an intellectual-property specialist?+
No. WIPO says it recruits for work beyond IP, including IT, human resources, library sciences, economics, finance and translation, alongside legal and technical IP functions. The relevant question is whether your education, experience and languages meet the requirements of the particular announcement. Professional and Director posts normally require a university degree and stated years of experience.
Are WIPO jobs remote or flexible?+
Do not assume that a Geneva-based WIPO post is remote. Subject to operational requirements and approval, WIPO offers arrangements such as teleworking, compressed schedules, staggered hours and part-time work; staff normally work on premises three days weekly and may work elsewhere up to 40 days annually. Individual Contractor assignments can be Geneva-based, mission-based or remote.
