How to Apply for UNOCT Jobs
Once you find a suitable UNOCT vacancy on IGO Jobs or the UN Careers Portal, submit your application through the official United Nations recruitment system. Below is a guide on how to apply.
Official UNOCT application route ↗1Search the official Department/Office field
Use UN Careers and search for **Office of Counter-Terrorism** in the Department/Office field. Open the full notice, because it confirms the actual UNOCT branch, job family, duty station, grade, contract type and deadline.
2Identify the specific UNOCT function
Read the organizational setting closely. A role may be in the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre, policy and knowledge management, the Counter-Terrorism Compact, special projects, cyber and new technologies, or another programme. Tailor your application to that named function, not merely to a general interest in counter-terrorism.
3Check the real duty station
UNOCT has headquarters roles in New York but also deploys officers with strategic partners and regional programmes. Recent official notices have included New York, Budapest and Baghdad duty stations. Confirm the notice’s location, travel requirements and reporting line before applying.
4Complete the formal Inspira application
Select **Apply Now** on UN Careers to enter Inspira. Create an account if needed and complete the online profile, experience history, education, languages and job-specific questions accurately. The online record is the formal application; do not send an unsolicited CV by email.
5Show evidence for the relevant mandate
Link achievements to the notice’s actual work: counter-terrorism policy, international cooperation, capacity-building, project management, human rights, rule of law, cyber issues, terrorist travel, strategic communications, knowledge management or partnerships. Give concrete examples of balanced judgement and multilateral collaboration.
6Submit early and prepare for assessment
Review mandatory fields before the deadline and retain the confirmation. UN Careers screens applications against the published criteria; shortlisted candidates may be invited to a written assessment, technical exercise, interview or another role-specific evaluation. Prepare examples against the stated technical and behavioural competencies.
Recruitment safety: No. The United Nations does not charge application, interview, testing, processing or training fees. Apply only through UN Careers and Inspira, and verify that the Department/Office says Office of Counter-Terrorism. Treat payment requests, bank-detail requests or instructions to apply outside official UN channels as fraudulent.
