About Gavi

Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is a public-private partnership that helps lower-income countries introduce and sustain life-saving vaccines. It brings governments, UNICEF, WHO, the World Bank, vaccine manufacturers, civil society and donors together to finance immunisation, shape affordable vaccine markets and strengthen country delivery systems. Its Secretariat manages grants, vaccine programmes, partnerships and Board processes; delivery is led with country governments and Alliance partners.

Working with Gavi

Working at Gavi means joining the Secretariat of a vaccine alliance rather than a conventional implementing agency. The Secretariat mobilises resources, manages the financial and policy architecture of the Alliance, coordinates country grant approvals and disbursements, shapes vaccine markets and supports the Board and its committees. Governments and Alliance partners lead delivery with Gavi funding; the job is therefore to make a complex partnership work well enough that countries can plan, procure and deliver vaccines reliably.

Why Work at Gavi?

  • Influence vaccine access at scale

Shape funding and markets that help countries protect children with essential vaccines.

  • Work through an unusual alliance

Connect governments, manufacturers, donors and technical partners around country-owned immunisation decisions.

  • Combine policy with practical delivery

Use evidence, finance and operational insight to improve how vaccine support reaches communities.

How to Apply for Gavi Jobs

Once you find a suitable Gavi vacancy on IGO Jobs or the Gavi careers page, submit your application through Gavi’s official recruitment portal. Below is a guide on how to apply.

Official Gavi application route ↗
1Choose the correct Gavi opportunity route

Open a live Secretariat vacancy on Gavi’s career website and read the complete notice for its team, location, contract and eligibility. Staff recruitment is distinct from consultancy and project work, which Gavi directs to its RFPs and Consulting Opportunities route; do not send a consultancy proposal through a staff application.

2Submit a role-specific CV and cover letter

Apply through the career website with a CV and cover letter tailored to the job. Connect your experience to the advertised technical work and Gavi’s partnership model, using concrete results rather than a generic interest in global health. Submit before the vacancy’s stated deadline and keep a copy of what you uploaded.

3Prepare for the Sonru video screening if invited

After initial review, Gavi may invite you to a Sonru online video screen. Its official process says this stage tests technical experience and motivation. Prepare concise examples that show both what you did and why your judgement, collaboration and experience fit the specific post.

4Complete the written exercise and panel interview stages

Gavi may set a written exercise to assess role-relevant and writing skills, followed by a panel interview with the hiring manager and recruiter. The panel assesses motivation, culture fit, technical ability and Gavi competencies, so prepare evidence-based answers that relate directly to the role’s responsibilities.

5Take part in final stakeholder conversations

The final rounds can include one-to-one or two-to-one interviews with the hiring manager, recruiter and key stakeholders. Treat these as a further assessment of working style and technical fit, not merely a formality. Ask role-specific questions and be consistent with the experience described in your application.

6Complete references and employment conditions

For the selected candidate, Gavi takes three in-depth references, including at least two supervisors; Head-level roles also include a current or former direct report. The recruitment manager communicates the outcome by phone. New employees must confirm full COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of pursuing employment with Gavi.

Frequently asked questions about Gavi careers

Where do I submit a Gavi job application?+

Submit the CV and tailored cover letter through Gavi’s official career website for the specific live Secretariat vacancy. Gavi’s vacancies page also separates consultancy and project work into RFP and Consulting Opportunities, so use that route rather than a staff application when the opportunity is not an employee position.

What does Gavi assess in its video screen?+

Gavi may use a Sonru online video screening after the CV stage. Its official recruitment outline says the screen asks about technical experience and motivation. Prepare short, specific examples from your work and connect them to the advertised team, rather than delivering a broad statement about wanting to work in global health.

Is there a written test for Gavi roles?+

It can be part of the process. Gavi says its written exercise assesses the skills relevant to the role as well as writing ability. If invited, follow the instructions and time limit carefully, use sound evidence and structure the response for the decision-maker rather than recycling a generic policy or academic answer.

How many references does Gavi request?+

At the reference stage, Gavi requests three in-depth references, with at least two supervisors. For Head roles and above, the process also includes a current or former direct report. Keep referee details current, seek their consent before listing them and make sure they can speak to the responsibilities described in your application.

Does Gavi require COVID-19 vaccination for new employees?+

Yes. Gavi’s current vacancies page says new employees must confirm that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of pursuing employment. This is presented as a duty-of-care requirement for a vaccine organization. Check the live vacancy and any recruitment communication for the current wording or further instructions.
