Technical Officer, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene

Provides technical support for climate-resilient water, sanitation and hygiene strategies across WHO's African Region. The assignment helps Member States strengthen policies, monitoring systems, workforce capacity and partnerships so safer environmental-health services reach communities and health facilities.

Department: Climate Change, Health and Environment

• Develop and implement regional WASH policies, guidance, standards and strategies
• Lead support for GLAAS, WASH Accounts and Water Safety Plans or Water Safety Nets
• Assess country capacity gaps and deliver workshops, training and peer learning
• Strengthen collection, harmonisation, analysis and reporting of WASH data
• Develop digital submission, monitoring and data-visualisation tools
• Support hygiene promotion, behaviour-change communication and community engagement
• Engage governments, donors and technical partners and contribute to proposals and progress reports

• Training or specialization in public health engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, hydrology, hydrogeology, sanitation engineering, environmental science or management, or a related field
• Practical experience processing, analysing and interpreting WASH and health-related data
• Knowledge of GLAAS, WASH Accounts and Water Safety Plans or Water Safety Nets
• Strong analytical, drafting and reporting skills
• English and French language proficiency
