NCD Prevention and Management Technical Officer

Provides technical guidance to African Member States on prevention and management of noncommunicable diseases, strengthening policy, primary-health-care integration, risk-factor interventions, surveillance, data and training while building multisectoral partnerships around rehabilitation, violence and injury prevention.

Department: Noncommunicable Diseases Team

• Advise countries on national NCD strategies, policies and action plans
• Integrate NCD, injury and rehabilitation services into primary health care
• Support implementation of WHO Best Buy interventions
• Strengthen surveillance, monitoring and health information systems
• Analyse indicators and contribute to regional technical reports
• Develop training materials and facilitate technical consultations
• Build partnerships across government, civil society and academia

• Medical degree from a recognised university
• Advanced degree in public health, epidemiology, global health, health policy, health systems, preventive medicine or another relevant discipline
• Four years of combined experience in NCDs, violence and injuries, health promotion or related programmes in low-resource settings
• Experience addressing a major NCD risk factor
• Experience designing, implementing, monitoring or evaluating public-health policies or programmes
• Experience working with governments in low- or middle-income countries
• WHO, UN or international NGO experience
• Fluency in English

• UN Volunteer specialist assignment in Brazzaville for 365 days
• Duty station requires adaptability to intermittent services and potentially difficult living conditions
