Overview

WHO's UN Volunteer in Kampala will support tobacco, alcohol and sweetened-beverage surveillance across African Member States. The officer designs surveys, validates and analyses data, monitors tobacco-control indicators, prepares reports and advocacy products, supports dissemination and strengthens evidence-informed policy.

Responsibilities

  • Support Member States to design and implement youth and adult tobacco surveys
  • Strengthen surveillance of tobacco and emerging nicotine products
  • Collect and validate alcohol, sugar-sweetened beverage and tobacco-epidemic data
  • Analyse survey results and develop dissemination mechanisms
  • Prepare reports, factsheets, presentations, policy tools and advocacy materials
  • Contribute to manuscripts, technical meetings and regional monitoring

Requirements

  • Professional background in medicine, public health, epidemiology or a related field
  • At least three years of national or international experience in public health, epidemiology, public policy or socioeconomic development
  • Knowledge of surveillance methods and public-health data analysis
  • Fluency in English and French
