Job Description

Provides senior political advice to the Head of Mission on the implementation of UNSCO’s mandate in the Israeli-Palestinian context. The role monitors political, security and operational developments, shapes strategic recommendations and reporting, and sustains engagement with authorities, United Nations partners and regional actors to advance mandated peace and conflict-prevention objectives.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Advise the Special Coordinator on political, operational and substantive matters
  • Monitor political, security and operational developments affecting UNSCO’s mandate
  • Assess implications and recommend strategies and policy measures to the Head of Mission
  • Produce and review analytical reports, situation reports, briefing notes and cables
  • Maintain engagement with Israeli and Palestinian authorities, political leaders and civil society actors
  • Collaborate with the United Nations Country Team on political matters in the Occupied Palestinian Territory
  • Engage United Nations offices, missions and regional and international actors on mandated objectives

Role Requirements

  • Advanced degree in business or public administration, finance, accounting, law, social sciences or a related area; a first-level degree with qualifying experience may be accepted
  • Over 15 years of progressively responsible experience in international relations including conflict mediation, political transitions, post-conflict peacebuilding, development and governance reforms
  • Experience in United Nations political engagement in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the region
  • Experience in programme management including human resources, administration, logistics, financial and budget matters
