Overview

The associate advances safe, dignified and voluntary refugee returns by counselling candidates, preparing documentation, coordinating movements, monitoring field implementation, analysing return data and advising protection and programme teams on needs and conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Interview repatriation candidates and establish that return decisions are informed and voluntary
  • Prepare voluntary-repatriation forms and provide refugees with appropriate documentation
  • Facilitate communication with communities through translation and cultural mediation
  • Coordinate information activities and logistical support for border-crossing and return movements
  • Monitor return operations through consultations, field visits and monitoring tools
  • Gather and analyse data on movements and return conditions and advise protection and programme teams
  • Assess vulnerable returnees, register eligible cases and advise on appropriate responses
  • Maintain repatriation databases and draft reports on voluntary-return activities

Requirements

  • High school diploma with three years of relevant experience, or bachelor's degree or higher with two years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of UNHCR refugee protection standards, repatriation procedures and durable-solutions policies
  • Knowledge of English or the UN working language of the duty station
