Job Description

Leads UNESCO's Regional Office for Central Africa and represents the Organization across its covered states. The Director positions UNESCO as a trusted development partner, directs multidisciplinary programming and office operations, manages human and financial resources, supervises national office heads, and builds partnerships that advance regional priorities and development agendas.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Direct UNESCO's Regional Office for Central Africa and represent the Organization in the covered states
  • Supervise the heads of UNESCO national offices in Brazzaville, Kinshasa and Libreville
  • Position UNESCO as a trusted development partner through integrated sub-regional approaches
  • Establish and implement the Office's multidisciplinary programme with the wider UN system
  • Manage office operations, resources, premises and assets effectively and efficiently
  • Build external relations and resource partnerships including with the Central African Economic and Monetary Community
  • Ensure Office participation in United Nations activities at country and sub-regional levels

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in a discipline related to UNESCO's mandate, public or business administration, international relations or a related field
  • At least 15 years of progressive professional experience at an appropriate management level
  • Experience in diplomatic work or development issues related to UNESCO's areas of competence
  • Demonstrated advocacy and resource-mobilization experience
  • Excellent knowledge and drafting skills in English or French and ability to work in the second language

  • Management-related courses, degree or training
  • International relations, diplomacy, multilateral cooperation or development experience
  • Geopolitical knowledge of the region and international affairs
  • Knowledge of other UNESCO official languages
