Working with IFRC
Working at the IFRC means joining its international secretariat, not applying directly to one of its member National Red Cross or Red Crescent Societies. The secretariat supports and coordinates locally led humanitarian action across the network, while each National Society remains its own organization and employer. In practice, a role may connect preparedness, emergency response and recovery with longer-term resilience and institutional development: helping a National Society prepare for a forecast hazard, coordinate network support.

Use the official IFRC jobs portal linked from its Work with us page. The Federation advertises staff jobs, consultancies and internships there and does not accept open applications. Open the exact posting and assess the role’s grade, location, contract, requirements and closing date before applying.
2Confirm whether the post is externally or internally advertised
Check the eligibility wording in the notice. Anyone may apply to an externally advertised post if they meet its criteria. Internal vacancies are for current IFRC employees, Staff-on-Loan and National Staff; some may state that a candidate has been identified, but eligible internal candidates may still apply.
3Complete the IFRC online application and questionnaire

6Complete references and pre-employment checks if selected
After the panel identifies a preferred candidate, HR requests professional references. An offer follows only after references and medical clearance, and remains contingent on employment and academic verification plus criminal-background checks carried out by a third party.
