Safeguards Training Officer (NDA)

Designs and delivers technically credible nuclear-safeguards training for IAEA staff and Member State counterparts. The officer assesses learning needs, develops materials, evaluates course effectiveness and advises inspectors and technical staff on safeguards approaches, equipment and techniques.

Department: SGCP-SG Staff Training Team

• Assess safeguards training needs for staff and Member State counterparts
• Design technically credible courses and learning materials using a systematic training approach
• Deliver formal courses, workshops and on-the-job safeguards training
• Evaluate trainee performance and course effectiveness and update content accordingly
• Prepare training tasks, budget inputs, reference documents and reports
• Advise inspectors and technical staff on safeguards approaches, equipment and techniques
• Collaborate with technical experts on safeguards training projects

• Advanced degree in science, physics, engineering, safeguards, education, social sciences or a related field, or a bachelor’s degree with two additional years of relevant experience
• At least seven years of combined research, industrial and nuclear safeguards experience, including training implementation and presentation
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Medical clearance and participation in radiation and health monitoring when working with radioactive materials

• Development reassignment from 1 September 2026 to 28 February 2027, with possible extension
• Eligibility is limited to qualifying IAEA fixed-term staff under mobility procedures
• The role may involve occupational exposure to radioactive materials
