Protection Intern

UNHCR offers a Protection Internship in Paris supporting legal research and advocacy on French and European asylum law, monitoring legislation and jurisprudence, preparing briefings and events, assisting CNDA training and conducting status checks for asylum applicants.

Department: Legal and Policy Affairs Unit, UNHCR Representation in France

• Support initial and continuing training for members of the French asylum court
• Research and draft legal analysis on French, overseas and European asylum law
• Monitor legislative, jurisprudential and policy developments on asylum
• Prepare meetings, events, external interventions, minutes and briefing notes
• Support status verifications in countries of first asylum
• Contribute to cross-cutting work of the Legal and Policy Affairs Unit

• Current enrolment in higher education or graduation within the two years before applying
• At least two years of undergraduate study in human rights, public international law, international relations, political science or another relevant field
• French at minimum CEFR C2 and English at minimum CEFR B2
• Thorough knowledge of French asylum procedures and relevant institutions

• The target start date is 19 October 2026
• The internship initially runs to 31 December 2026 and may be renewed to a total of six months
• Interns without third-party support receive approximately EUR 1,480 per month
