National Consultant – Biodiversity and Ecosystem-Based Adaptation Specialist

Assesses biodiversity, ecosystem vulnerability and resource-related conflict to guide a climate-resilience project in Qushtapa. The consultant combines field research and stakeholder engagement with practical recommendations, a monitoring framework and awareness material for ecosystem-based adaptation.

• Review biodiversity, ecosystem, climate and environmental-degradation evidence for Qushtapa
• Design biodiversity and conflict-assessment methodology, sampling and stakeholder engagement
• Conduct field ecological assessments, interviews and community focus groups
• Analyse biodiversity trends, resource scarcity, ecosystem vulnerability and conflict dynamics
• Assess biodiversity benefits, risks and trade-offs of proposed adaptation interventions
• Develop operational recommendations for restoration, soil health, habitats and water management
• Prepare biodiversity baselines, conflict analysis, monitoring frameworks and final reports
• Produce a digital awareness product on biodiversity and ecosystem-based adaptation

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, ecology, natural resource management, climate change or a related field
• At least five years of professional experience in biodiversity assessment, ecosystem management or environmental research
• Experience with ecosystem-based adaptation, nature-based solutions, biodiversity or climate-adaptation projects
• Experience conducting field ecological assessments and environmental data analysis
• Experience in fragile, conflict-affected or post-conflict contexts
• Experience designing stakeholder consultations and environmental monitoring frameworks
• Fluency in English and Kurdish
• Availability for field visits to Qushtapa

• Consultant must include all travel and accommodation costs in the financial proposal
• Consultant must submit a financial proposal with the application
• Consultant must maintain medical insurance for non-occupational illness or injury
• Appointment is subject to funding confirmation
