Job Description

The IIIM-Syria internship in Geneva supports the Information Systems Management Section’s internet research, information-governance, data-protection and data-analysis work on the Syrian situation. The intern conducts open-source research, synthesises legal and policy issues, assists with automation and scripts, and prepares research and analysis for a final presentation.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Conduct targeted open-source research and analysis
  • Research and summarise political, economic, social, technological and legal issues concerning Syria
  • Assist with data analysis, automation and script development for information-management and research workflows
  • Research legal, policy and operational issues relating to data protection, privacy and information governance
  • Compile research and analysis into a final presentation for IIIM
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and information accessed during the internship

Role Requirements

  • Enrolled in or completed a graduate programme, or enrolled in or completed the final academic year of a first university degree
  • Field of study closely related to the internship, including information technology, data science, cybersecurity, law, international relations, human rights or related disciplines
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Ability to interact successfully with people from different cultural backgrounds and beliefs

Desired Criteria

  • Knowledge of French or Arabic
  • Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS Outlook and MS Teams
  • Cover letter in English stating motivation and availability dates
