Job Description

The IAEA seeks a consultant in Vienna to provide technical expertise for physical-protection upgrades at reactors and other nuclear facilities. The assignment develops specifications, work plans, reports and training materials, supports laboratory-equipment procurement, and organizes consultancy meetings, workshops and technical exchanges with Member States.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical specialist for physical protection upgrade projects at reactors
  • Provide technical expertise for physical protection upgrades requested by Member States
  • Develop technical specifications, work plans and reports supporting protection upgrades at nuclear facilities
  • Support procurement and supply of physical protection laboratory equipment for the Nuclear Security Training and Demonstration Centre
  • Conduct capacity-building activities including training, workshops, exercises and seminars
  • Develop training materials and organize IAEA consultancy meetings and technical meetings

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in nuclear engineering, physics, chemistry or another relevant engineering field
  • Minimum of five years of experience working in safety, security or nuclear engineering
  • Professional experience in nuclear security and national nuclear security frameworks, facility systems and assessment activities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of nuclear power plant technologies and expert knowledge of safety and security systems
  • Excellent oral and written command of English

Desired Criteria

  • Experience with national and international partners, preferably including the IAEA
  • Experience developing nuclear-security guidance or technical documents using national or international best practice
  • Experience writing, coordinating, editing and finalizing technical reports
  • Experience developing, maintaining or enhancing project-management databases
