Overview

The assistant supports UN archives by accessioning paper and digital records, checking and arranging transfers, digitising and preserving holdings, processing disposal, maintaining archival descriptions and location controls, responding to research requests and supporting repository administration and security.

Responsibilities

  • Support client offices and field missions in transferring paper and digital records
  • Check transferred files against lists and arrange accessions in series order
  • Update archival locations and descriptors in the records management database
  • Digitise, rehouse, preserve, arrange and describe paper archives
  • Separate disposable records and support secure records destruction
  • Search finding aids and retrieve records for internal and external requestors
  • Control classified records, loans, returns and authorised-user access
  • Provide routine correspondence and administrative support for repository operations

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least three years of experience in documents or records management
  • Experience performing clerical functions
  • English proficiency at UN Level III in reading, writing, listening and speaking
  • Eligibility for local recruitment in the New York commuting area
