UNHCR is recruiting a Representative to lead the Washington, D.C. office as the High Commissioner's senior representative in the United States. Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive external engagement strategy across US government and key state/local officials
  • Develop and sustain a robust network of support across the US spanning government, civil society, philanthropy and private sector
  • Lead and oversee advocacy and fundraising initiatives generating political and financial backing for refugee protection
  • Serve as a member of the senior leadership team contributing to global UNHCR strategy and decision-making
  • Provide strategic advisory support to UNHCR country offices on US donor engagement and funding compliance
  • Direct the United States resource mobilization strategy, monitoring funding pipelines and securing strategic partnerships
  • Ensure security compliance and represent UNHCR in the UN Country Team and inter-agency fora

Requirements

  • 18 years relevant experience with undergraduate degree, or 17 years with graduate degree, or 16 years with doctorate, in Business Administration, International Relations, Political Science, Social Science, Human Resources Management, International Law or related field
  • Proven ability to lead high-level representation, political advocacy, strategic communications, partnership development and negotiation in complex, politically sensitive contexts
