Project Manager – Biodiversity and Ecosystem Restoration

Leads a UNDP and GEF project conserving Somalia’s terrestrial and marine biodiversity, establishing protected areas and restoring degraded ecosystems. The role directs implementation, teams, procurement, finance, safeguards, monitoring and partnerships to strengthen ecological and community resilience.

Department: Protected Areas Project

• Lead planning and implementation of the protected-areas project
• Supervise project personnel, partners, consultants and governance structures
• Manage procurement, contracts and operational quality assurance
• Oversee budgets, expenditures, co-financing, audits and financial reporting
• Lead monitoring against results frameworks and GEF indicators
• Prepare progress, inception, annual and final project reports
• Apply environmental, social and gender safeguards
• Coordinate ministries, communities, donors and other project stakeholders

• Advanced university degree in environmental science, biodiversity, natural resource management or a related field, or a first degree with two additional years of experience
• Five years of experience managing large-scale environmental or conservation projects with a master’s degree, or seven years with a bachelor’s degree
• Leadership, team-management and donor-relations experience
• Experience with UNDP and GEF procedures
• Fluency in English and Somali
