Job Description

Leads communications for UNESCO climate-resilience projects in Central Asia, translating project evidence into web, social media, video and public-facing materials. The role connects project teams, national coordinators, media and partners to strengthen visibility, knowledge sharing and engagement.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Implement communication strategies for the GLOFCA and Cryosphere projects
  • Prepare terms of reference and support communications-contract evaluation
  • Build media partnerships and engagement plans
  • Coordinate newsletters with project teams, national coordinators and partners
  • Maintain project websites with news, human stories and other content
  • Develop social-media strategy and publish project content
  • Produce videos, interviews, field footage and photographic content
  • Manage project knowledge products, communications materials and media relations

Role Requirements

  • Entitlement to work in Kazakhstan
  • Completed higher education degree in mass communication, media studies, journalism, or ICT and knowledge-society issues
  • At least two years of relevant professional experience in communication, information, advocacy, marketing, PR, website development, social media or related fields
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Russian
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, graphic-design, image-processing, video-processing and website tools

Desired Criteria

  • Experience in environmental or natural-sciences communications
  • Experience building partnerships with UN agencies, the private sector, civil society or NGOs
