Job Description

Provides technical and coordination support to strengthen implementation of Uganda's Tobacco Control Act and regulations. The consultant coordinates enforcement, capacity building, farmer-transition, laboratory and monitoring activities with government, WHO and development partners.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Coordinate tobacco-control priorities and report progress to WHO country, regional and headquarters teams
  • Build enforcement-officer capacity and monitor district action plans
  • Coordinate the Tobacco-Free Farms initiative with ministries, farmer groups and development partners
  • Support laboratory studies, product regulation and joint compliance inspections
  • Monitor industry interference and tobacco-related media activity
  • Lead public-awareness activities and tobacco-control review meetings

Role Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Public Health or a related field
  • At least five years of health programme-management experience
  • Knowledge of WHO FCTC and MPOWER
  • Experience working with government institutions and development partners
  • Expert knowledge of spoken and written English
