National Consultant: Demography and Population Policy Expert

Produces the demographic analysis underpinning Iraq’s post-census population report and adolescent policy, combining census review, projections, stakeholder consultation and policy assessment to help government and UNFPA strengthen evidence-based national planning and population governance.

• Analyse Iraq’s 2024 Population and Housing Census and demographic trends
• Assess implementation of the National Population Policy and future demographic scenarios
• Prepare population projections and evidence-based policy recommendations
• Lead demographic chapters of the State of Iraq’s Population Report
• Support adolescent policy development with demographic evidence and projections
• Consult government entities, UN agencies, academia and civil society
• Prepare inception, draft and final reports, presentations and editable datasets
• Present findings and incorporate technical feedback from UNFPA and the Ministry of Planning

• Advanced university degree in demography, population studies, statistics, economics or a related field
• At least five years of experience in demographic analysis
• Demonstrated experience analysing census data and preparing national reports
• Experience developing demographic projections
• Experience working with Iraqi government institutions
• Fluency in English and Arabic

• Home-based consultancy with frequent missions in Baghdad and other Iraqi governorates
• Total compensation is USD 5,000, paid in two instalments against draft and final reports
• The posting gives inconsistent three-month and four-month duration statements
• Deliverables are due by 1 October and 15 November 2026
