National Climate Scientist

Operationalises localised CMIP6 climate scenarios for glacial lake outburst flood monitoring in Kyrgyzstan, producing climate inputs, modelling datasets and capacity-building materials for MoES and OSCE project partners.

Department: OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek

• Review the MoES GLOF monitoring system and compile hydrometeorological records for target basins
• Select and downscale CMIP6 climate ensembles for Chu and Issyk-Kul river basins
• Generate glacier-melt and runoff projections for priority watersheds and scenario simulations
• Feed climate projections into hydrodynamic breach scenarios with the modelling expert
• Prepare climate scenario training materials and deliver hands-on training to MoES staff
• Update climate inputs, peer review field validation reports and hand over datasets and documentation

• Advanced university degree in climatology, atmospheric sciences, hydrometeorology, physical geography or a closely related discipline
• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in climate modelling or downscaling global climate models for Central Asia or comparable mountain regions
• Demonstrated experience with CMIP5 or CMIP6 datasets and at least one statistical or dynamical downscaling technique
• Working knowledge of mountain-cryosphere processes and links to GLOF generation
• Proven training and capacity-building experience with national institutions
• Fluency in Russian and good working knowledge of English
