National Climate Change Planning Specialist

Supports Nauru’s climate readiness work by aligning technical studies and a prospective Green Climate Fund concept with national planning. The specialist reviews policy gaps, assesses climate risks and mitigation potential, coordinates government stakeholders, builds institutional capacity and supports results monitoring.

Department: Subregional Office for the Pacific Islands

• Analyze private-sector opportunities for climate investment in Nauru
• Review and update climate policies, strategies and implementation frameworks
• Integrate adaptation and mitigation priorities into national and sector plans
• Support climate risk, mitigation potential and institutional capacity assessments
• Develop guidance materials and facilitate government training workshops
• Contribute to a Green Climate Fund concept for agrifood systems and water
• Coordinate the national designated authority and government stakeholders
• Monitor readiness activities and prepare implementation and workshop reports

• University degree in climate change planning and adaptation, international development, environmental science, social science or a related field
• At least three years of experience in climate policy development, adaptation planning or development planning
• Working knowledge of English
• Nationality of Nauru

• Eleven-month non-staff assignment with possibility of extension
