Overview

Supports South Africa’s strategies for local production of medicines, vaccines, diagnostics and health technologies. The officer advises government and regulators, strengthens pharmaceutical manufacturing and quality systems, maps production capacity, develops policy products and coordinates technical partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Support national strategies and roadmaps for local production of health technologies
  • Advise government institutions on pharmaceutical manufacturing ecosystems and product access
  • Support regulatory strengthening, benchmarking, harmonization and good-manufacturing-practice oversight
  • Coordinate consultations and partnerships across government, industry, academia and development partners
  • Assess manufacturing capacity, technology transfer, workforce, supply-chain and market barriers
  • Analyse evidence and recommend policy and investment actions
  • Prepare reports, policy briefs, investment cases and strategic-planning documents
  • Monitor local-production initiatives and deliver workshops and capacity-building activities

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, industrial pharmacy, public health, health economics, regulatory sciences, pharmaceutical policy, health systems, biotechnology, life sciences or a related field
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in pharmaceutical systems, medicines regulation, manufacturing, health technologies, public health or related work
  • Experience working with government institutions, regulatory authorities, pharmaceutical manufacturers, development partners or international organizations
  • Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical systems, medicines policy, manufacturing, good manufacturing practice, quality assurance and regulation
  • Excellent written and spoken English
