Medical and Public Health Specialist

Combines clinical care and public-health expertise to expand essential services across island communities in Micronesia. The volunteer strengthens surveillance, outbreak preparedness and field epidemiology, trains local personnel and turns health data into practical guidance for public-health decisions.

• Provide clinical services to island communities and the local college across Micronesia
• Train local staff and students in healthcare, foundational sciences and traditional medicine
• Support prevention, preparedness, detection, response and recovery for acute public-health events
• Implement event-based, indicator-based, community and sentinel surveillance through IDSR
• Verify and assess disease events that may constitute public-health emergencies of international concern
• Deploy for outbreak response and field epidemiology and implement WHO EWARS where needed
• Analyse health data and prepare briefings, situation reports, bulletins and alerts
• Develop procedures, guidelines, tools and manuals and build the capacity of local colleagues

• Fully qualified medical doctor or equivalent with strong clinical experience and demonstrated public-health competence
• Medical licence in the country of origin or residence and ability to meet host-country licensing requirements
• At least three years of clinical practice with experience in epidemiology, public-health surveillance, outbreak control, information management and quantitative methods
• Experience designing and implementing large databases, managing complex information flows and conducting quantitative research
• Experience responding to public-health emergencies and complex humanitarian crises
• Experience teaching or training within medical, nursing or public-health institutions
• Fluency in English
