Lead Biomedical Engineer

Leads biomedical engineering support for UNOPS health infrastructure in Sudan, assessing service and equipment needs, developing specifications and cost estimates, reviewing technical deliverables, coordinating installations and commissioning, and training users to improve safe, compliant diagnostic capacity.

Department: Sudan Project Office

• Assess health-service gaps, medical-equipment needs and operational performance
• Define equipment specifications, lists, layouts and lifecycle cost estimates
• Draft terms of reference for healthcare infrastructure consulting assignments
• Review reports, designs and specifications for accuracy and regulatory compliance
• Coordinate site visits, surveys and implementation with government and health stakeholders
• Evaluate vendors and verify supplied equipment against specifications
• Supervise installation, testing, commissioning and handover of medical equipment
• Develop operating procedures and train end users in equipment operation and maintenance

• Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related discipline with seven years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree in a related field with five years of relevant experience
• Relevant experience in hospital planning, medical waste management, medical-equipment specification and installation or similar fields
• Fluency in English and Arabic

• One-year retainer may be extended subject to performance and funding
• Retainer holders must complete mandatory unpaid courses before providing services
• Final candidates undergo background checks
