Intern on Environmental Governance

Supports UNEP’s environmental-governance and environmental-law work across Latin America and the Caribbean. The intern researches legislation and human-rights law, assists countries and regional initiatives, supports the Escazú Agreement and prepares legal analysis and outreach materials.

Department: Latin America and the Caribbean Office, Law Division

• Research environmental legislation, international environmental law and human-rights law
• Review draft laws and prepare comments and proposals
• Support implementation of the Escazú Agreement and work on environmental defenders
• Assist regional legal meetings, consultations and capacity-building activities
• Prepare briefing notes, reports, presentations and outreach materials

• Current enrolment in a relevant master’s programme, final-year bachelor’s programme, or recent university degree in law, legal affairs, international law or international environmental law
• Fluent written and spoken English and Spanish
• Full-time in-person availability

• Unpaid full-time internship for six months at 40 hours per week
• Interns bear travel, visa, accommodation and living costs
