Legal Adviser

Advise ICRC delegations across the Near and Middle East on international humanitarian law and related legal matters. The adviser researches and drafts legal analysis, supports protection and treaty-implementation strategies, assists authorities and builds networks with institutions and academic partners.

Department: Regional International Humanitarian Law Team

• Advise delegations on applicable national and international legal frameworks
• Draft legal notes, analyses, working papers and reports
• Research specific legal issues and national legal systems
• Support dissemination and implementation of international humanitarian law
• Provide legal advice and technical assistance to national authorities
• Monitor implementation of humanitarian and human-rights law
• Represent the regional legal team and maintain institutional and academic networks
• Support protection objectives and supervise external legal consultancies

• University degree in law
• Master’s degree or specialisation in international humanitarian law or a related field of public international law
• Four to six years of experience in a similar legal function
• Knowledge of domestic legal and policy frameworks and structures
• Fluency in English and Arabic
• Computer proficiency

• The role contributes to annual planning and budgeting for legal and policy work
