Leads UNESCO's Internal Audit Office, directing independent assurance and advisory work across the Organization. The role safeguards audit quality, risk management, governance and control processes while guiding staff, reporting to governing bodies and advancing oversight strategies.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Manage the Internal Audit Office, its staff and work plans
  • Maintain audit quality assurance processes aligned with IIA standards
  • Lead the planning, delivery, reporting and follow-up of internal audits
  • Direct assurance and advisory engagements on emerging risks and opportunities
  • Present internal-audit reports to governing bodies and the Oversight Advisory Committee
  • Advance IOS strategies, risk management, control and governance with UNESCO offices
  • Deputize for the Director of Internal Oversight Services when requested

Role Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Auditing, Accountancy, Public Administration, Economics, Business Administration or a related field
  • Valid CIA, CPA, CA or equivalent internationally recognised audit certification
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible audit experience, including 7 years in internal audit in an international context
  • At least 3 years leading or co-leading an internal audit function
  • Excellent written and oral knowledge of English or French, with very good knowledge of the other language

  • Knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations and procedures
