Responsibilities

  • Ensure reliable operation of server infrastructure for CERN experiments and users
  • Commission new systems for the Next Generation Triggers computing cluster
  • Evaluate and benchmark server hardware for scientific workloads
  • Deploy and operate systems equipped with enterprise GPU accelerator cards
  • Maintain and upgrade servers to sustain performance and availability
  • Coordinate technical exchanges with industry partners on novel technologies
  • Organise workshops on computing infrastructure topics

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering; applicants may not hold a PhD
  • No more than two years of professional experience since graduation by the application deadline
  • No previous CERN fellow or graduate contract
  • Experience with BIOS or UEFI, x86 or Arm architectures, virtualisation, memory, GPU computing, interconnects and storage drives
  • Experience with server management and monitoring protocols
  • Extensive Linux administration and shell-scripting experience
  • Demonstrated Python experience
  • Valid driving licence

Additional info

  • Hybrid role with an ideal start date of 1 January 2027. The appointment is for 24 months and may be extended to 36 months.
