Distributed Computing DevOps Engineer

Operates and evolves distributed computing services for CERN physics collaborations and the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid. The role develops automation, monitoring and operational workflows for large-scale scientific data infrastructure.

Department: IT Department

• Develop, integrate and automate operational tools and workflows for HL-LHC readiness
• Contribute to computing projects and operations for scientific collaborations
• Monitor and support large-scale distributed computing infrastructure across international sites
• Operate monitoring, accounting and topology systems for service availability, transfers and resource use
• Support incident tracking, service debugging and coordination with external sites and users
• Integrate AI-driven tools and automation technologies into operational processes

• CERN Member State or Associate Member State nationality, excluding Pakistani and Lithuanian nationals for positions with a 2026 start date
• Relevant qualifications and professional experience
• Master's degree, PhD or equivalent relevant experience in physics, computing, engineering or a related field
• Experience in Linux-based distributed computing environments
• Proficiency in Python programming and scripting languages
• Experience with web frameworks and relational and non-relational databases
• Experience with DevOps workflows, continuous integration, delivery and deployment, containerisation, orchestration and monitoring tools
• Previous CERN staff-contract holders are not eligible

• Contract duration is 60 months
• Minimum net entry salary: CHF 9,236 per month
• Possibility to extend contract up to 8 years and eligibility for indefinite contract tenure
• Hybrid work arrangement is stated
• Stand-by duty and work during nights, Sundays and official holidays may be required
