Job Description

The UN Resident Coordinator Office in Baghdad seeks an Associate Communications Officer to advance strategic communications for the United Nations in Iraq. The role develops narratives, media lines and communications products, coordinates partnerships, and analyses communications performance and data to inform engagement, planning, decision-making and reporting.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Implement communications strategies that raise awareness, engagement and support among target audiences
  • Draft narratives and messaging on UN work for different channels and platforms
  • Develop media lines for crisis situations and sensitive issues
  • Draft and produce press releases, statements, web stories, reports and infographics
  • Coordinate strategic communications partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Monitor and report on communications approaches and strategies to assess effectiveness
  • Analyse data and trends and prepare graphs, charts, tables and reports for planning and reporting

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in communication, journalism, international relations, digital communications or a related field; a first-level degree with two additional years may be accepted
  • At least two years of progressively responsible communications, international-relations or related experience
  • Knowledge of information-integrity risks in fragile, post-conflict and crisis environments
  • Skills collecting, processing and analysing large volumes of structured and unstructured data
  • Fluency in English and Arabic
  • Open to nationals of Iraq only

  • Knowledge of data-protection and privacy standards
  • Experience in data analytics
  • Skills using data-visualisation tools
