Job Description

Supports UNICEF's sanitation, hygiene and WASH-in-institutions work in Somaliland, combining programme planning, partner support and monitoring with emergency preparedness. The role strengthens government and community capacity and helps deliver climate-resilient services for children.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Support strategic planning and proposal development for sanitation, hygiene and WASH-in-institutions programming
  • Develop WASH results, indicators, baselines and verification methods for programme outputs
  • Monitor implementation through field visits, surveys and partner engagement and address bottlenecks
  • Provide technical and operational support to government, NGO and UN partners on WASH policies and practice
  • Prepare emergency supplies, service and partnership arrangements for humanitarian WASH response
  • Build stakeholder capacity and develop learning products on sanitation and hygiene

Role Requirements

  • Relevant degree in public health, social sciences, behaviour change communication, sanitary engineering or another technical field
  • At least three years of WASH programme experience, including sanitation and hygiene and community-led approaches
  • Experience working with government agencies, local authorities, international organisations, NGOs and communities
  • Good understanding of national WASH policies, plans, strategies and institutional arrangements
  • Fluency in English

Desired Criteria

  • Experience with self-build infrastructure approaches
  • Experience with market-based sanitation approaches
  • Knowledge of Somali-context WASH guidance, including health-care facilities
