Resident Coordinator

Leads the United Nations country team in Guinea-Bissau and represents the Secretary-General. The Resident Coordinator sets development strategy, advances the Sustainable Development Goals, coordinates development, peacebuilding and humanitarian action, mobilises partnerships and oversees the Resident Coordinator Office.

• Represent the United Nations with government and national partners
• Lead preparation and delivery of the United Nations Cooperation Framework
• Coordinate system-wide analysis, prevention and support to national priorities
• Promote human rights, gender equality and the commitment to leave no one behind
• Build strategic partnerships with government, civil society, donors and regional organisations
• Mobilise financing and oversee system-wide country funding instruments
• Support conflict prevention, peacebuilding and humanitarian coordination
• Manage and provide strategic oversight to the Resident Coordinator Office

• Master’s degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification in development studies, international relations, political science, economics, social sciences, human rights, law or a closely related field, with a relevant first degree and experience accepted for otherwise qualified candidates
• More than fifteen years of substantive international leadership experience
• At least five cumulative years of country-level work outside the candidate’s own country in development, human rights, rule of law, peacebuilding or humanitarian action
• Previous Resident Coordinator experience or senior-level inter-agency coordination experience
• Membership in the Resident Coordinator Pool
• Fluency in English and French at UN Level III

• Expected start date in July 2027 unless the incumbent is reassigned earlier
• Three-year assignment at an E-classified duty station
• Eligibility is limited to members of the Resident Coordinator Pool
