Resident Coordinator

Leads the United Nations country team in Niger and represents the Secretary-General at country level. The Resident Coordinator sets collective strategy, advances the Sustainable Development Goals, coordinates development and humanitarian action, mobilises partnerships and champions human rights and accountability.

Department: Resident Coordinator Office

• Represent the United Nations at the highest levels of state
• Lead the country team’s Cooperation Framework development, delivery, monitoring and reporting
• Coordinate system-wide support to government and mitigate risks to Sustainable Development Goal delivery
• Forge strategic partnerships across government, civil society, business, academia and development actors
• Oversee country financing instruments and mobilise resources for joint United Nations work
• Promote human rights, gender equality, prevention and the normative agenda
• Lead strategic communication and system-wide analysis
• Provide security, humanitarian or peacebuilding coordination when formally designated

• Master’s degree in Development Studies, International Relations, Political Science, Economics, Social Sciences, Human Rights, Law or a related field, or an accepted first-level degree with relevant qualifications and experience
• More than fifteen years of international leadership experience
• At least five cumulative years of country-level development, human-rights, rule-of-law, peacebuilding or humanitarian work outside the candidate’s own country
• Previous Resident Coordinator experience or senior inter-agency coordination experience
• Membership of the Resident Coordinator Pool
• English at UN Level III in reading, writing, listening and speaking
• French at UN Level III in reading, writing, listening and speaking

• Three-year assignment at a D-classified non-family duty station
• The selected candidate may be designated Humanitarian Coordinator
• Appointment is limited to the Resident Coordinator System in Niamey
