Overview
Represents the Secretary-General and leads the United Nations country team in Sri Lanka. The Resident Coordinator directs the Cooperation Framework, aligns support with national priorities, advances human rights and sustainable development, mobilises partnerships and oversees the Resident Coordinator’s Office.

Responsibilities
- Represent the United Nations at the highest levels of state
- Lead country-team development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the Cooperation Framework
- Coordinate system-wide support to government and mitigate risks to Sustainable Development Goal delivery
- Forge strategic partnerships across government, civil society, business, academia and development actors
- Oversee country financing instruments and mobilise resources for joint United Nations work
- Promote human rights, gender equality, prevention and protection from sexual exploitation and abuse
- Lead strategic communication, country analysis and knowledge sharing
- Provide security, humanitarian or peacebuilding coordination when formally designated
Requirements
- Master’s degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification in development studies, international relations, political science, economics, social sciences, human rights, law or a closely related field, with the stated degree substitution possible
- More than fifteen years of substantive international leadership experience
- At least five cumulative years of country-level development, human-rights, rule-of-law, peacebuilding or humanitarian work outside the candidate’s own country
- Previous Resident Coordinator experience or qualifying senior inter-agency coordination experience
- Membership of the Resident Coordinator Pool
- English at UN Level III
