Resident Coordinator

Represents the Secretary-General and leads the United Nations country team in Panama. The Resident Coordinator directs the Cooperation Framework, aligns system-wide support with national priorities, advances human rights and the Sustainable Development Goals, mobilises partnerships and oversees the Resident Coordinator’s Office.

• Represent the United Nations at the highest levels of state
• Lead country-team development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the Cooperation Framework
• Coordinate system-wide support to government and mitigate risks to Sustainable Development Goal delivery
• Forge strategic partnerships across government, civil society, business, academia and development actors
• Oversee country financing instruments and mobilise resources for joint United Nations work
• Promote human rights, gender equality, prevention and the United Nations normative agenda
• Lead strategic communication, country analysis and knowledge sharing
• Provide security, humanitarian or peacebuilding coordination when formally designated

• Master’s degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification in development studies, international relations, political science, economics, social sciences, human rights, law or a closely related field, with the stated degree substitution possible
• At least fifteen years of substantive international leadership experience
• At least five cumulative years of country-level development, human-rights, rule-of-law, peacebuilding or humanitarian work outside the candidate’s own country
• Membership of the Resident Coordinator Pool
• English at UN Level III
• Spanish at UN Level III

• Start date is planned for November 2027 unless the incumbent is reassigned earlier
• Panama City is classified as an A duty station with a five-year tour
• Eligibility is limited to members of the Resident Coordinator Pool
• Appointment is limited to the Resident Coordinator System in Panama City
