Overview
The consultant will guide Lao Statistics Bureau specialists in analysing 2025 census mortality data, applying direct and indirect demographic methods, producing life tables and geospatial products, and drafting a national thematic monograph and policy brief for health and development planning.

Responsibilities
- Design the mortality-analysis methodology, life-table framework and indirect estimation equations
- Guide validation and analysis of infant, child, adult and maternal mortality indicators
- Construct complete and abridged life tables and calculate life expectancy measures
- Develop reproducible SPSS or R syntax and mentor Lao Statistics Bureau experts
- Integrate mortality indicators with GIS to produce provincial and district thematic maps
- Draft the national mortality monograph and a concise policy brief with actionable recommendations
- Validate census outputs and reconcile death reporting with administrative health data
Requirements
- Advanced university degree in demography, population studies, statistics, quantitative sociology or a closely related discipline
- At least seven years of progressive international experience in advanced demographic analysis
- Track record authoring national census mortality monographs or life tables for UN agencies or national statistical offices
- Advanced mastery of SPSS and R, including syntax automation
- Excellent spoken and written English

- Work is hybrid with remote delivery and one planned five-day mission to Vientiane
