Leads the Access Support Unit’s operational work to facilitate humanitarian and diplomatic personnel movement across Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory, coordinating authorities and partners, resolving access incidents, advising senior UN forums and managing the project team

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with Israeli and Palestinian authorities to facilitate personnel access and movement
  • Coordinate UN, NGO and diplomatic partners through established humanitarian access mechanisms
  • Oversee the 24-hour access hotline and resolve movement impediments with relevant authorities
  • Support permits, special coordination, personnel rotations and evacuations from Gaza
  • Advise UN country and humanitarian leadership on common access positions and advocacy
  • Analyse access restrictions and produce reports, policy papers, briefings and talking points
  • Plan unit activities, monitor delivery, report to the Project Board and manage ASU staff

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, or a bachelor’s degree with two additional years of experience
  • At least seven years of progressively responsible humanitarian, emergency, rehabilitation or development experience
  • Experience addressing humanitarian access and movement impediments
  • Experience leading and managing teams
  • Experience conducting access negotiations
  • Fluent English
